How to
Use College
Throughout our years helping families with the college process, we realized there is a huge missing piece that nobody is addressing.

There are admissions advisors, standardized testing tutors, and financial aid advisors to help you get into schools, but there is no one to help you once you’re there. This is why we created our flagship course: How to Use College.

We want to give you the skills necessary to make real use of your college education and not let four years pass you by without maximizing all of your opportunities.

How to Use College
A Course by College Foundry
Location:
The Bates House (1 Bates Road, East Setauket, NY 11733)
Duration:
Mondays, 5pm-7pm (4 Weeks)
Week 1
Building a Competitive Advantage
What makes you different? 70% of high school graduates go to college and 61% of entry-level jobs require 3+ years of experience. Nobody sets themselves apart by just attending lecture. That’s why it’s more important than ever to jump into the real world as soon as possible.
That’s why, we’ll teach you how to:
  • Get leverageable work experience on & off campus
  • Build and distribute your personal brand using Instagram, LinkedIn, Email, and in-person events
  • Track professional experiences and turn them into a well-crafted resume
  • Create a personalized system of metrics to track progress and efficiency weekly
  • Use independent minded thinking to get ahead!
Week 2
Building Professional Relationships
Who you know is what matters. If you’re relying on a piece of paper to land you the job, then you’ve already lost. We know a better way to guarantee you have leverage when you walk in for the interview. 2019 networking is the new resume.
That’s why, we’ll teach you how to:
  • Strategically start your professional network long before you need it
  • Properly research people of interest and creatively add value for them
  • Use our way of getting in touch with nearly anyone!
  • Execute outreach best practices (and to avoid worst practices!)
  • Follow up and maintain relationships for when you need them
  • Become a good connector of people!

Week 3
Building a Career
I think we can all agree that the point of college is for students to get a good job, be successful, and not come back home to live with their parents until they’re 30. One problem - a degree doesn’t guarantee you a job.
That’s why, we’ll teach you how to:
  • Plan a long-term career, not just a job
  • Research companies that you’ll love and have real potential in
  • Market yourself as an asset by providing value for a company before you’re hired
  • Customize your resume and cover letter to bypass application tracking systems and land the interview
  • Prepare for Interview Day!
Week 4
Interview Day!
Put your skills to the test and compete in our practice Interview Day!

You will leave with a packet of goals, accomplishments, and feedback to share with your family. Most importantly, you will leave with the support of Amanda, Omid, and a network of peers who will have your back as you jump into the real world.
